DirectShow filter support for the HD-SDI product family
We are continuously working on improving our product line and adding support to interface with multiple platforms. To date our HD-SDI cards work with ffmpeg, mplayer and VLC in Linux and DirectShow filter and Windows Media Encoder (WME) support in Windows.

Linear Systems ships HD-SDI Quad/i PCIe card with Windows and Linux driver support.
With support for video and de-embedded audio, the HD-SDI Quad/i allows simultaneous capture of four HD-SDI inputs. SDK also included. For more information contact info@linsys.ca

The Team

Tom Thorsteinson, BScEE, President

Mr. Thorsteinson has worked as a design engineer since his graduation. At the start of his career, he was in charge of the design of analogue circuitry for a "Gamma Camera", a Gaseous Fission Product monitor used in nuclear plants, the linear circuitry for an On Stream Ore Grade Monitor, the re design of the On Stream Ore Grade Monitor, as well as a Potash On Stream Analyzers, many of which were installed in Saskatchewan.

In 1979 Tom began Linear Systems Ltd. in Winnipeg and worked on the "Tripper Control System" and an "Ore Grade Analyzer" for Potash mines. The tripper project used a microcomputer system based on an Intel 8085 mounted in a Multibus Chassis. The Ore Grade Analyzer used a National NSC800 processor mounted in a CIMBUS card rack. Mr. Thorsteinson has worked as a manager of the company since 1979, where he has been in charge of managing the R&D projects as well as sales and marketing.


George Cosens, BSc.EE, P. Eng., Hardware Engineering Manager

George completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Manitoba in 1983. George started working as a design engineer at Linear Systems Ltd. in 1985 and became Chief Engineer in 1988. He has designed many products for Linear Systems Ltd. including real time clocks, battery backed RAM boards and numerous serial communications boards for iSBX, ISA and PCI computers.



George's duties in the design process include:
  • Assisting development of product concept and specification.
  • Circuit design.
  • PCB layout.
  • Development of test and embedded software.
  • Prototype testing and debugging.
  • Engineering support to production and customer service.
  • Quality Assurance Manager for our ISO9001 registered Q.A. system.
  Recent Designs:
  • T1 Master: Synchronous serial board with interface modules for ISA bus.
  • WAN Master: Synchronous serial board with interface modules for PCI bus.
  • IM530/449-DTE: EIA 530 interface module for T1 Master and WAN Master.
  • IMV35-DTE: V.35 interface module for T1 Master and WAN Master.
  • IM-T1-CSU: T1 interface module for T1 Master and WAN Master.
  • Octoport: 8 port asynchronous serial board for PCI bus.
  • DVB-ASI Transmitter: PCI board for transmission of DVB-ASI over coax cable.
  • DVB-ASI Receiver: PCI board for receiving DVB-ASI over coax cable.



Valeri Sicotte, Office Manager

Valeri joined Linear Systems Ltd. in 1997, as the Office Manager, after graduating from Computerized Bookkeeping. Valeri has completed both the "Human Resource Management" and "Management Development" Certificates in 2008, receiving honours in both. She is currently working towards completing her Accounting Certificate.

Valeri also manages the production department at Linear Systems. Responsibilities include supervising the purchasing and manufacturing areas to assure schedules are being met, and inventory is kept at the required levels. Valeri deals directly with customers to arrange schedules and confirm customer's requirements are met.

Valeri is also responsible for Human Resources at Linear Systems. Most recently, Valeri implemented our Employee Manual and works with employees and management on issues dealing with human resources.
